A tropical paradise with world class waves.
The Maldives has quietly become one of the world’s most coveted surf destinations—and for good reason. With crystal-clear lineups, warm water, and a handful of luxe resorts offering guided surf charters, your perfect wave is often just a short boat ride (and a cold coconut) away.
SURFING MALDIVES
MALÉ ATOLLS
Hosting several international contests over recent years, the North Malé Atoll is definitely the most well-known and popular. Home to Sultans, Cokes and Chickens to name a few, it’s much busier than it’s southern neighbours. The breaks a little further south in the South Malé Atoll are generally a little smaller but less crowded, making it no less fun!
CENTRAL ATOLLS
While the waves are generally a bit smaller than than the northern atolls, it’s becoming more popular as surfers look to escape the crowded waves in the north. Well known breaks include Mikado’s, Finnimas and Maliks in Thaa, and Yin Yangs in Laamu. On it’s day, Yin Yangs can deliver one of the most powerful waves in the country.
SOUTHERN ATOLLS
Located as far south as you can go in the Maldives, the waves tend to be remote and uncrowded. With nothing to block the southern swell when it’s running, the waves tend to be more powerful, with some of the breaks for experts only!
